High Performance ADA Domes

ASTM – Testing of ADA Domes

What is the ASTM?

ASTM International, originally founded in 1898 as the American Society for Testing and Materials, is today an international standards organization that develops and publishes voluntary consensus technical standards for a wide range of materials, products, systems, and services.

In the U.S., ASTM standards have been adopted, by incorporation or by reference, in many federal, state, and municipal government regulations.

How does ASTM apply to Detectable Warning Tiles?

Since Detectable Warning Tiles are supposed to serve the visually impaired community as a long lasting and reliable device for orientation in traffic, they need to perform well in inclement weather conditions over 10 years and more.  In order to accurately and consistently measure the potential performance of the materials used in the manufacturing of any Detectable Warning Tile, there must be a metric or test method standard.  Per its definition, a test method standard is a short, informative description of a procedure to determine a property or constituent of a material, collection of materials or a product.  The test method also includes details about the test apparatus, test specimen, test procedure and calculations of data obtained from the test, always undertaken by a certified independent laboratory.

Who provides this type of Independent Materials Laboratory testing?

StrongGo® Industries’ selected laboratory is audited and or inspected by AMRL, (AASHTO Materials Reference Laboratory, CCRL (Cement and Concrete Reference Laboratory) and is also an approved laboratory for the US Army Corps of Engineers.  This level of inspection service guarantees stringent consistent quality assurance and quality control procedures government agencies, construction and engineering firms can rely upon.

StrongGo® provides test specimens to the indepent laboratory on a regular basis in order to perform the appropriate test methods for each of the following seven tests. These tests are truly relevant to the quality and performance of any Detectable Warning Tile in the marketplace.
