To understand the development and positioning of TekWay® Dome – Tiles, a very brief history is required. In 1991, the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) was created and voted into law. This law provides safety measures and equivalent accessibility for persons with disabilities. It also mandates the use of detectable warnings as a signal for the visually impaired to the presence of a hazard in the line of travel – typically, crossing a street or a parking area.
The necessity to use a detectable warning product may be the result of a federal, state or local enforcement issue. Or, it could be at the request of a building owner or an architect or a civil engineer. Regardless of whether the project is a sidewalk ramp or a private or public building, usually many people are involved in the decision making process and everyone is looking for a detectable warning product that truly “fits”.
To fulfill all legal and design requests, the professional contractor is looking for a product that is easy to install, that is strong and durable, that is competitively priced, and that is readily available from a company which provides excellent and comprehensive customer service.
With having these objectives in mind, StrongGo® developed TekWay® Dome – Tiles with the following goals and commitments:
-
Provide a product that has outstanding physical characteristics. Or, simply said – to provide a detectable warning that lasts.
-
In addition, to provide a product where its Truncated Domes are integral to the body of the tile, and therefore will hold-up to the toughest demands – including most types of vehicular traffic.
